Soften, Smooth & Rejuvenate
Recapture that Youthful skin Glow with Microderm Abrasion
Microderm Abrasion is a quick, noninvasive procedure which gently exfoliates the top layer of dead skin cells, resurfacing the skin and promoting the formation of newer, smoother, clearer, more radiant skin. As the dead skin cells are exfoliated more of your skin care products can pass through it reaching the dermis, where all new skin originates from. Treatments are usually provided in a series in one to two week intervals. Follow up care may include monthly maintenance sessions. This gentle and progressive program involves no downtime and improves many facial conditions.
Microderm Abrasion is also an excellent immediate pre-treatment for chemical peels. Removing the dead skin cells opens the pores and allows treatments such as chemical peels or oxygenated vitamin-mineral-anti-oxidant infusion serums to penetrate deeply into the layers of the skin for great results.
Microderm Abrasion FAQ
How does it work?
Microderm Abrasion is a non-invasive procedure where very fine, sterile crystals are sprayed across the surface of the skin. They gently abrade away the dry and damaged surface cell layers, leaving the skin smoother and more vibrant.
Who is a good candidate?
Microderm Abrasion is good for people who have acne & acne scars, wrinkles & fine lines, scar removal, rejuvenation of healthy skin, age spots, hyper-pigmentation, sun damage, rosacea, circulation improvement and appearance of pore size.
How does this compare to laser skin resurfacing?
It is less aggressive. Laser skin resurfacing is done in a surgical suite, requires a general anesthetic and has a long healing time of 2-6 months.
How many treatments do I need?
We sell packages of six treatments which meets the needs for most of our clients. Treatments are usually given at one to two week intervals.
Is there anyone who shouldn’t have microdermabrasion?
Anyone who forms keloid scars, has active facial herpes or warts, those with facial redness or flushing, such as in rosecea, anyone that has been on Accutane in the past 6 months or Retin A in the last three days, anyone that has had plastic surgery within the last year and anyone who has been in the sun or tanning booth within the prior two weeks.
Is it only for the face?
No, it can be used anywhere on the body where smoother, softer skin is desired. Microdermabrasion is most often performed on the face, but can be performed on most skin surfaces, such as hands, chest and areas where rough skin is prevalent, such as elbows, knees and heels.
How long does it take?
Microderm Abrasion takes about 30 minutes, however, we strongly recommend that it be combined with a chemical peel, which adds an additional 15 minutes to the procedure.
Why do you recommend the combination of a chemical peel?
Chemical peels dissolve the bonds between the cells, making the epidermis more porous, less compact and more permeable, increasing uptake of your products by the dermis. A specific peel will be chosen depending on your skin’s balance.
What are the side-effects?
Side-effects of microderm abrasion and chemical peels include redness, swelling, itching, irritation, skin peeling or flaking (depending on the type of chemical peel) and infection, if you fail to follow post procedure instructions. We recommend the use of sunscreen and avoidance of direct sun for 72 hours.
Is it painful?
The procedure is very gentle. The skin will feel taught as the tip is pressed against it, with a mild tingling sensation. This may vary depending on the individual and the body area being tested.
Is it safe?
While any procedure has potential for harm, Microderm Abrasion is extremely safe.
Do I need to be using home skin care products?
We recommend that you maintain a good skin care regime in order to maintain healthy glowing skin.
What results can I expect?
Patients are delighted with this treatment which will improve the appearance of oily or dull skin, enlarged pores, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, uneven skin color. Your skin should feel smooth and your skin tones equalized. Most clients report that their skin seems softer, tighter, smoother and younger looking.
How soon will I see results?
You will notice an immediate improvement after your first treatment. Your skin will have a fresh glow and smoother texture. Improvements continue throughout your treatment program.
